I always wanted long hair growing up, but was not granted that genetic trait. I would dress as Cher at Halloween, buying the long wigs, just so I could swing my hair back over my shoulders repeatedly, just like she did in the Sonny and Cher Variety Show.
The Cowsill's song "Hair" also resonates with me. Singing that refrain made me almost believe I could grow long hair when I was younger. Alas, as I got older, the dream slipped farther away.
Going through chemotherapy and taking pills called aromatase inhibitors, I was losing hair by clumps and bounds. My sister Jan told me not to waste it. Do something creative with it. I chose to make a bird's nest with it in the honeysuckle vine right outside my kitchen. I don't know if birds will ever nest there, but I can hope.
